Youth ACE Volunteering

BTCV in York are very pleased to have received funding from the Big Lottery to run the Youth ACE Volunteering project in the York area.

The Youth ACE project is free and works with new and existing groups of young people aged between 13 and 18 to create and develop their own projects connected to the environment. Their projects may be hands on such as transforming an unused area into a sensory garden, cleaning up graffiti and installing a graffiti board or it could be thought provoking such as creating a leaflet to encourage local people to recycle; the possibilities are endless.

The idea is they take ownership of their project as an individual or group and enjoy learning new skills with the opportunity to attend training courses and events. Through their volunteering they will have the opportunity to complete awards, be guided all the way through the environmental work they choose and gain work experience alongside qualified BTCV staff. Currently we have a youth, scout, school, college and 6th form groups participating in the Youth ACE project. Here is a Youtube video of the St John's University project we did this year and one of their River ouse clean up.

Young people taking part in Duke of Edinburgh Awards would find this project easily fitting into the Service, Skills or Physical Recreation part of the award. We also offer the option to work towards a John Muir Award.

Youth Achievement Awards

Youth Achievement Awards

The Youth Challenges and the Youth Achievement Awards are an activity-based approach to peer education and BTCV in York can now work with your group to achieve these awards.

The Awards are designed to help develop more effective participative practice by encouraging young people to progressively take more responsibility in selecting, planning and leading activities that are based on their interests. The peer group model encourages the development of a wide range of life skills through a flexible and informal approach.

For more information on these awards please get in touch with Rachel or Naomi.
