Wykebeck Valley Conservation Volunteers

4th March 2011: Volunteers at Primrose Valley Woods

Do you want to learn new skills, get out in the fresh air, meet new people and look after your local greenspace?

If so, then why not join The Wykebeck Conservation Volunteers – a new group which has been launched as part of the Wyke Beck Valley Pride Project.

We meet every Friday from 10am to 4pm. The BTCV minibus will pick up outside Asda Killingbeck, just opposite McDonalds at 10am. We’ll be finished by 4pm at the latest and take you back to the drop off point.

We will be carrying out conservation tasks to improve the local environment along the Wyke Beck Valley, including: pathworks, hedge planting, scrub clearance and litter-picking.

Please wear warm, old clothes, sturdy footwear and bring your lunch. Tea, coffee and biscuits are provided.

No previous experience required.

Contact Jess Kandola on 0113 274 2335 or J.Kandola@btcv.org.uk for more information

A bit about the project:

Leeds City Council Regeneration lead a partnership of Leeds City Council Parks and Countryside, Groundwork Leeds, BTCV, Wyke Beck Valley Community Forum, Leeds Voice and Leeds Ahead to secure the Access to Nature Grant. The project will run for three years to September 2013 and includes a range of community, education, access and conservation works. Supporting existing Friends of Groups along the Valley and establishing new ones is a central part of the process.

The Wyke Beck Valley runs from Roundhay Park to Rothwell Country Park including Gipton, Seacroft, Killingbeck, Primrose Valley and Halton Moor. The valley is recognised as a Living Landscape and an important green corridor for both people and wildlife. The Wyke Beck Valley Pride Project covers all greenspace around and along the route within the EASEL (East and South East Leeds) area.
