West Sussex Beach Wardens

After completing the BTCV managed training programme, Beach Wardens have often ‘adopted’ a stretch of beach. They monitor wildlife and help other organisations by completing surveys and sending the data to the various Records Offices.
The Beach Warden Scheme was funded by the Veiola Environmental Trust and was successfully delivered by BTCV as a partnership project with the generous support of local people, councils and marine related organisations.
The West Sussex Beach Wardens have established themselves into a a BTCV Community Local Associated Network Group. they now raise their own funds and co-ordinate the excellent efforts of individual wardens. Their activities include beach cleans, surveying, practical tasks, promotional events and educational support.
During 2007, BTCV received funding from the Vgoodmatch scheme to support 20 young people to beocme a Beach Warden.
By providing free training and lots of help to develop their own projects, this quickly became a great opportunity for young people to obtain practical volunteering experience, meet and make new friends and have something positive to show for their efforts.
Beacuse this has been a extremely popular and highly regarded BTCV project, BTCV has secured further funding to deliver 2 training courses during 2008.
