Task programme

We run projects every Wednesday and Thursday and the first and third Sunday of every month, with the odd extra days thrown in. Our day runs from 10 til 4 - though you can join and leave when you like. If you click on the highlighted text below and then click on the project you are interested in you'll find the meet up details.

Is it for me... who can volunteer?

No experience is necessary as all the projects are suitable for first time volunteers.

Projects are run by experienced leaders who as well as explaining how to safely use any hand tools required, will also teach you any necessary skills. You work at your own pace so don't worry if you're not super fit.

If you are aged 16-18 you may volunteer with written permission from a parent or guardian and there is no upper age limit!

What stuff do I need?

What stuff do I need?

You bring:

Clothes you don't mind getting dirty
Sturdy footwear is good - though we have plenty of wellingtons you can borrow if you don't have any of those.> Packed lunch (we supply tea/ coffee and biscuits)

We supply:

Transport
Tools
Gloves
Tea, coffee, herbal tea, soft drinks ; biscuits!

What would I do and where?

In Richmond we are lucky to have some of the most beautiful sites in London.

So if you come out on project with us you may end up chopping down rhododendrons in the middle of Richmond park, planting trees along the towpath, or constructing benches at the Leg O'Mutton reservoir.

When would I volunteer?

You're spoilt for choice, as we generally work every Wednesday, Thursday and on the 1st and 3rd Sunday of each month. Check out the task programme or give us a ring in the office on 020 8891 4295. Leave a message if we are not there and we'll get back to you.

We leave our pick up point by the bridge to Eel Pie Island on the Embankment in Twickenham at 10am. See the map below. We return to there by 5pm. Or you can make your own way to the site where we are working - we normally get there by 10.30.

Pick up point

We take a minibus out to each project, which leaves the pick up point by the footbridge to Eel Pie Island (the bridge is not shown on the Google Map below - but it is there - just come down to the river and you'll see it) on the Embankment in Twickenham at 10am.

Our office is actually on the Island - to find that come over the bridge, bear left, ignoring all ways off until you come to a seeming dead end - the entrance to Eel Pie Slipways - don't be scared - go through the door! This is a working boatyard so with care please! Walk through the boat yard and soon you see to your left the new wooden clad building that is Phoenix Wharf - we are in there.

Find the office:

  • By train: The office is 10 minutes walk from Twickenham train station.
  • By bus: we are a short walk from King Street in Twickenham - so look for buses to there.
  • By car: best avoided by car - parking is expensive (except on Sunday when it's free) - or you can go to the nearby Arragon Road multi storey car park

You can zoom in or out using the plus [+] and minus [-] buttons on the map for either more or less detail. You can also move the map using the arrows.
