BTCV Scotland : Natural Talent : 2008 Apprenticeship Opportunities : Open Day 2008

Thursday 20 November 2008
open day 2008

A new series of Natural Talent apprenticeships was launched at an Open Day held in the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh on the 26th July. This was an ideal opportunity for prospective apprentices to find out more about the scheme and particularly to hear from the past and current apprentices about their own experiences – warts and all!

The launch introduced the new apprenticeships which will be rolled out in the next few months covering the following subjects:

  • Bryophytes
  • Mycology
  • Diptera /hoverflies
  • Lichens
  • Farmland wildlife conservation

Highlights of the day included the workshops which were aimed at promoting the excellent work carried out in protecting our Natural Heritage. The soup and sandwiches went down well too!!

Thanks to all those who attended what was a very informative and enjoyable day. The ‘Botanics’ provided a perfect venue for the event so many thanks to the RBGE staff, particularly David Long (Bryologist), Roy Watling (Mycologist), and Lichenologists Chris Ellis and Brian Coppins.

Feedback from the event has been very positive and we hope that it proved a very instructive and worthwhile day.

We are currently recruiting now and hope to have all our new apprentices in post by October (Bryophytes Jan 09).
