Norwich Green Gym

Twebty Acre Woods - clearing along the path

Norwich green Gym is now a fully-fledged, self-supporting community group, run by the volunteers themselves! You can see the Norwich Evening News coverage of the story here

The team meet every Sunday, Monday and Wednesday afternoon to enjoy some green exercise whilst looking after local public green spaces.

You can contact the group via the usual phone number, 01603 767 300 or via their new email e-mail: norwichcommunitygg@gmail.com but please allow a few days for a reply.

Life Changing Success

Volunteers with their civic awards

Norwich Green Gym volunteer Liz has won the volunteer of the year award at the Norfolk County Biodiversity Awards and a national BTCV Green Hero award. Here she is collecting the latter award from Charlie Dimmock - congaratulations Liz!

Green Gym volunteers have also been hunted down by the Sheriff of Norwich – and their activites in the city’s green spaces made public.

Mark Webster and his band of merry men and women not only won a Norwich Civic Award for Voluntary Service in the charity category, they were also selected as making the most difference to the lives of Norwich people and received the Sheriff’s Award as well.

Eight volunteers and Mark brushed up their more usual attire to attend a civic reception at the Council Chamber, complete with Town Crier and full council regalia, to hear the results of the awards.

Mark said the group, who have been working on various sites around Norwich improving habitats and access for visitors, were delighted to receive this double honour. “Thank you for all your support in making this possible in our first year,” he told volunteers. “I hope we can continue the success story for many years to come.”

Norwich Green Gym - the future

With the end of its main funding stream, and the departure of Project Officer Mark to run BTCV’s North Norfolk Project, the Norwich Green Gym will now be continuing with tasks led by volunteers - please see above for our latest programme. In order to keep the scheme running in the long-term, we need more participants to come forward to help us with organizing the tasks and running a community group to support the project. Please contact 01603 767 300 if you are able to help in any way
