Giant Himalayan Hogweed Invasion

Lyn Byrn, our Invasive species apprentice, talks to Sara McClintock from WWF, on how to recognise Giant Himalayan Hogweed and also what she's doing to reduce its numbers along the Ballinderry River.
As the name suggests, this plant isn't native to Northern Ireland and yet it is taking over our river banks at an alarming rate. This invasive species is taking preventing native plants from growing and its toxic sap makes it dangerous for local people to go near it.

'shrooms with Natural Talent

BBC2 Scotland's Landward programme recently covered the BTCV Natural Talent apprenticeship scheme.
Some of the apprentices are keen young graduates who want to get a foothold, others come from a totally different background and are keen to start a new life. Sarah Mack meets two with totally different perspectives.
