Become a Volunteer Officer (VO)

Grab your chance to volunteer with the UK’s leading practical conservation charity!

Either as a stepping stone to your career in the environment sector or as personal development, the Volunteer Officer scheme is a unique experience and highly rewarding.

Learn practical skills while working on practical conservation projects in and around Leeds.

You will be responsible for organising and leading tasks and gain experience in volunteer co-ordination and project management. You will also have the opportunity to get involved with other projects and events, including fundraising, educational activity days, publicity and marketing.

As a Volunteer Officer you will be trained by our experienced staff, as well as receiving formal training through BTCV training programmes and ENT courses. You will receive training in Leadership, Health and Safety, Tools Training, First Aid, Midas, Safe guarding. As you will be working with a diverse group of volunteers, training will also be provided in Mental Health First aid, working with people with learning disabilities, and Equality and Diversity Training.
You would need to commit to 3 – 5 days a week for 6 months.

Become a key volunteer

Can you spare 1 or 2 days a week to volunteer? Do you want to support other volunteers, vulnerable adults and young people? Can you give a regular commitment?

You could help with our NVQs, our Healthy Walking project, Horticulture or Friends of Hollybush.

Claiming benefits

People often worry about how they will make ends meet if they choose to volunteer. BTCV is a registered charity and as such you are legally entitled to volunteer full time for BTCV and still claim Job Seekers Allowance (JSA) and housing benefit, depending upon your domestic arrangements. Many (in fact most) of our staff have volunteered at some point and so please feel free to have a chat if you are unsure about your position.
