Training courses
Training has always been central to the aims of BTCV in Kent. By developing the skills of volunteers and individuals, local groups and communities are more able to deliver sustainable projects in their localities. The programme of one and two day courses is designed to give people the practical and organisational skills necessary to carry out conservation work. The courses can also act to complement other training and to help gain the skills necessary to work in conservation.

Practical Skills
A number of courses ranging from Hedgelaying and Coppicing to Green Woodworking and Tree Planting, all emphasising the practical elements of the task. A great chance to go into the countryside and make a difference as well as learn a new skill.
Ecology and Identification Skills
These courses are suitable for both those who wish to understand wildlife a little better and those who aim to get involved in habitat management. Only by understanding habitats and by knowing what wildlife is present can useful decisions be made about the conservation of an area. Kent BTCV run a number of courses that help people to be able to identify wildlife and understand the environment including amphibian and reptile identification, coppice ecology and wildflower identification.
Group Leadership Training
With over 45 years experience of leading conservation projects, BTCV's group leadership courses are highly regarded within the conservation world. These courses are designed to give groups the skills they need to run tasks safely and effectively. Examples of these courses include Leading Groups Safely, Emergency First Aid and Involving Your Local Community.
Training for Wardens
Specific training programmes are run every year for Tree Wardens, Pond Wardens, Compost Advisers and Rural Transport Wardens. These courses cover a wide range of skills that people need to carry out their role, but you do not need to be a warden to attend, they are open to all. However, they are free to wardens. Please refer to the warden pages for more information.
Customised Training
If you are part of an organisation or group that would like to arrange a course for your members or staff, BTCV can tailor courses specifically to your requirements. BTCV can also deliver these courses in a location of your choice or you can utilise one of the many countywide venues that BTCV has access to. BTCV also holds the NCFE Investors in Quality kitemark for training and is a registered OCN centre, which means that learners can also gain NCFE and OCN accredited qualifications.
