Ashford Community Woodland

The Singleton Environment Centre has been built adjoining the Ashford Community Woodland, a green space set aside by Ashford Borough Council and designed and managed by volunteers from the local community.
You are welcome to visit and enjoy the community woodland. After your visit to the environment centre why not enjoy a stroll around this green haven for wildlife?
The site boasts stunning views of Ashford and the distant downs.
The site consists of mixed broad-leaved woodland, large areas of recently planted community woodland and rough grassland.
The community woodland is home for a number of birds including endangered species such as skylarks and yellowhammers. Look out for other animals like common lizards and dragonflies that enjoy the meadows and woodland edges.
Many species of butterfly can also be seen here including marbled white, speckled wood, small skipper and comma..
Making a difference
The Ashford Community Woodland group meet monthly on the 1st Saturday of the month between 10am -1.00pm (meet in the car park off Singleton Hill) to carry out important conservation work in the woodland.
New volunteers are always welcome, no matter what ability everyone can get stuck in and help.
Your contribution will help our wildlife, and maintain a green space that people can enjoy.
Tasks can include, hedge planting, pruning, scrub bashing, meadow cutting, litter picking etc.
Ashford Community Woodland volunteers are supported by BTCV and Ashford Borough Council. The Ashford Community Steering Group meet regularly to discuss the woodland’s management. Ashford Green Gym® also carry out conservation tasks at the woodland.
