Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What qualifications do I need to apply?
A: None! We are not looking for any academic qualifications, rather a long-standing interest in the subject of the apprenticeship you are applying for.
Q: What apprenticeships are you offering in the future?
A: The subjects of the apprenticeships will be advertised on this website as soon as they are finalised. Until then you could sign up to our mailing list to ensure you are kept up to date.
Q: Are there any age restrictions?
A: None whatsoever! We welcome apprentices who are changing careers as well as those just starting out!
Q: I have never worked in the environmental heritage sector before, will I still be eligible?
A: Yes! We’re not looking for qualifications or experience, we want people who are passionate about the apprenticeships and can show this. This could be through voluntary work or how you’ve pursued your interest in your spare time.
Q: I have lots of qualifications. Am I overqualified?
A: Unless you already consider yourself an expert in the subject of the apprenticeship you are interested in, you cannot be overqualified for the scheme!
Q: I am not from Scotland or Northern Ireland, can I still apply?
A: Yes there are no restrictions on nationality. It is worth bearing in mind though that the apprenticeships have been developed to solve the skills shortage in Scotland and Northern Ireland. We are looking for people who are sincere about keeping the skills they gain in these countries.
Q: I live abroad, can I apply?
A: No, applicants must be resident in the UK at the time of application.
Q: Where are the apprenticeships based?
A: The apprenticeships consist of two or three placements with partner organisations, either in Scotland or Northern Ireland. Full details of locations are dependent on what apprenticeship you apply for.
Q: Can I change the location of the apprenticeship?
A: No, the apprenticeships are developed as work based placements with partner organisations and the apprenticeship will be undertaken in their facilities.
Q: Can I do the apprenticeship part-time or on a different time scale to that planned?
A: No, the apprenticeships are designed to be full time jobs for their duration.
Q: How do I apply?
A: Either download an application pack from our web page or send a stamped addressed envelope capable of holding A4 to us. Full details are given here. Send the application form and a 2 page CV to us at the contact details given.
