Every Action Counts

BTCV have joined forces with a consortium of voluntary and community sector organisations across England to deliver Every Action Counts The initiative, backed by Defra, helps community groups take simple everyday actions that will benefit themselves and help create a cleaner, greener, fairer and safer community at the same time.

BTCV is working in partnership with the consortium to train and support over 1,000 Community Champions across England to work with Community Groups, Clubs and Societies to highlight small actions that each group can take to make a real difference now and in the future.

Did you Know...?

Between 1990 and 2003, the average distance people walk has fallen (by 19%) from 237 to 192 miles, per person, per year. Check out Travel Wisely to see how communities are changing the way they travel.

Since 1994, 86 of the UK's most important wildlife species and 10 of the most important wildlife habitats, are still in decline. Check out Care for your Area to see what groups are doing to help reduce this.

Since 1978, the annual amount of food moved in the UK by heavy goods vehicles has increased by 23%, and the average distance for each trip has increased by over 50%. Check out Shop Ethically to see if your community group can change their shopping rules.

If everyone boiled only the water they needed to make a cup of tea instead of 'filling' the kettle every time, we could save enough electricity to run practically all the street lighting in the country. Check out Save Energy to get ideas how your group can reduce the energy they used.

Every day the UK produces enough waste to fill Trafalgar Square. Check out Save our Resource to reduce your groups footprint on the planet.
