Volunteer Officers

Looking for a job in the environment or countryside sector?

Hoping to support your studies with practical experience?

Wanting to do something worthwhile to give back to your community?

Whatever your reason for becoming a Volunteer Officer with BTCV, we are sure you will gain as much from the experience as we and your local environment will.

Volunteer Officers are people who have a little more time to give, working alongside our staff and volunteers either on practical tasks, supporting learners or bringing their talents into the office to benefit the smooth running of operations as a whole.

In return for your time you receive guidance, training and valuable experience as well as the personal feel-good factor of helping people succeed at practical challenges and achieve their personal goals. Suitable protective clothing and equipment are provided – you just need to supply the enthusiasm!

Check out how BTCV has helped people like you here.

In East Sussex we usually have specific posts covering slightly different aspects of our work . . .

Training Volunteer Officers

There are two places, one based at Plashett Wood near Lewes, the other at Ninfield Study Centre.

You would be required to support our trainers in delivering the Level 1 Diploma course by: giving instruction on completion of practical tasks; advising on tool usage, care and health and safety; driving a minibus and guiding students in the completion of their coursework portfolios.

Time commitment: 2 days a week for the length of the course (approx 26 weeks)

Recruiting now for course started January 2010.

Midweek Group and Natural Break Officer

This post is for a volunteer to assist in the planning and running of regular Wednesday volunteer task sessions (instructing in practical conservation tasks and advising on tool usage and health and safety) and supporting the planning and delivery of the Natural Break holiday programme.

Time commitment: 2 days a week for a minimum of 6 months.

Health Walks Volunteer Officers

Lots of people would like to get out and walk more but do not - perhaps they lack company, confidence or feel afraid to walk in open areas unaccompanied. You could help. By becoming a volunteer Health Walk leader you can support people to make more of their local area, enjoy the outdoors and improve their fitness and general wellbeing. You could make a real difference to people's lives. You've never done this type of thing before? No problem. You can attend a one-day training course to give you practical guidance on what you need to know. Contact Paula Hubens for more information.

If you are interested in any of the above opportunities, or in supporting the work of BTCV in any other way, please contact the office on 01424 446395.
