Development Support

BTCV International supports and develops non-government organisations (NGOs), communities and other organisations. We do this by helping to strengthen their institutional and operational capacities through learning and development opportunities.

We work with NGOs to create tailored and linked learning initiatives. These include:

  • training courses on volunteer management, fundraising, community development and business planning
  • workshops
  • coaching
  • mentoring
  • distance learning
  • field trips
  • supplying technical information

We run our Conservation Holidays programme in partnership with NGOs. The holidays support our developmental work by giving a working context and focus for training. The skills and experience gained by our NGO partners enables them to run community-based tourism for themselves.

Skills people develop include organisational and logistical management, motivation and management of volunteers, leadership and communication, developing sustainable tourism initiatives, and health and safety.

BTCV takes the lead on the second European funded project Environments for Learning to develop a European wide validation framework for skills gained through environmental volunteering.
