Frequently asked questions

Will it cost me anything?
You will have all reasonable expenses covered; travel, personal protective clothing, training and learning materials, so will not be out of pocket through your volunteering.

Is it safe?
There is no more danger in our volunteering events than in any other standard outdoor activity. Each project is assessed and managed to keep everyone safe. All our project leaders are trained in and equipped with first aid.

Do I need to bring tools or equipment?
No. Everything you need is provided at the site.

Do I have to wear anything special?
Boots or shoes with a good grip and clothes you feel comfortable working in and don't mind getting dirty are best. If you have your own gloves bring them. Remember, the weather can change while you're on site.

Do I need any experience?
No. The project leaders will explain to you everything you need to know once you're there and are used to working with novices and more experienced people.

Will I fit in?
Whether you're looking to make a difference to the environment around you, learn some new skills, do some physical activity, or meet new people... well, everyone else will be there for similar reasons. Most day project volunteers leave having made new friends.

How do I get to the site?
All you have to do is meet the minibus at the designated pick-up point, and it will take you to the site and bring you back.

Do I need to be interviewed first?
No. All you have to do is turn up on the day - but please remember to make sure that the organiser is expecting you.

What if I have a medical condition?
Before you start work at the site the Project Leader will take some contact details and information about anything that may affect how we involve you in the day. Please let them know if you have a medical condition.

Am I too old?
We involve everybody, once you are over 18, your age is immaterial to us.

How hard will I be expected to work?
There are many different activities to do on a typical conservation site. Everyone has a chance to work as they wish, as long as it's safe for them and other people. There will be enough activities to suit all levels of fitness.

Can I take my dog?
Sorry. No dogs. We find not all people like dogs, no matter how well behaved, and we want everyone to feel comfortable.
