Changed Places, Changed Lives: The social impacts of environmental action

These web pages support a report entitled Changed Places, Changed Lives on the social impacts of environmental action.

The report summarises the results of a collaborative research initiative involving BTCV and partners from the Black Environment Network (BEN) and the Evaluation Trust.

The full report is available here in PDF format (2.2MB)

There are also longer reports on the six case studies. Much of the work was inspired by initial work with one project at Saanjjhi in Birmingham - read the Saanjjhi story. That work was carried out by the Black Environment Network.

BEN did this work through a process of participatory evaluation - information about this process is available here. They also developed a set of matrices to capture the reactions of the people involved in these projects. Those matrices and a blank one are available to download here as Excel files. A short presentation (PowerPoint) is also available.

BEN have contributed a background piece to these "Changed Places, Changed Lives" pages.

The report and web content have been produced and edited for BTCV by Chris Church. The case study texts were produced by Judy Ling Wong of the Black Environment Network, Sarah del Tufo and Sue Webber of the Evaluation Trust and Helen Tomb of Conservation Volunteers Northern Ireland. Additional materials came from Clifford Davy of BTCV. In every case project participants were actively involved in the research and we are grateful to them for their involvement.

The research work was supported by the Lloyds TSB Foundation for England and Wales, and the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation.
