Action BTCV is taking on Climate Change
BTCV's Sustainable Development Action Plan demonstrates our commitment to addressing the impacts of climate change. The plan details the actions that we intend to undertake to reduce our carbon footprint. We will encourage our staff, volunteers and supporters to adopt pro-environmental behaviours in the following ways.
Here are some of the actions we have already taken.
BTCV has:
- Identified the organisation’s carbon footprint and set annual targets to reduce it.
- Established an Environment Topic Group
- Published an Environmental Policy, supported by procedures and guidance.
- Undertaken annual environmental audits, which sets targets for improvements.
- Considered environmental and ethical issues as a priority in its purchasing decisions
- Encouraged sound environmental practice from its employees – i.e. green travel
- Built new sustainable Head Quarters – Sedum House, Doncaster
- Started working towards BS 8555 & ISO 14001
- Trained over 400 Every Action Counts Community Champions.
- Produced a scoping paper written for Defra on ‘The role of the Voluntary and Community Sector in inspiring pro-environmental behaviour change’.
- Worked in partnership with WWF to identify ways that key Voluntary Sector organisations can bring about pro-environmental behaviours amongst their members, volunteers and supporters.
- Supported Breathing Places run by BBC encourages viewers to ‘do one thing’, which BTCV delivers in partnership with the Wildlife Trusts.
