BTCV York

Fun out on task!

Welcome to BTCV York Field Office. We run practical conservation activities several times a week throughout the year. The tasks are varied, so there are always opportunities for volunteers to get involved with the projects and to learn new skills.

By coming to volunteer with us, not only will you be able to try out new skills, but will also be able to keep fit, improve an area of the local community and meet other people who enjoy being outdoors.

How you could get involved

  • Day Tasks: We run tasks every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, and generally every first and third Saturday of the month. No experience is required to take part in these tasks, just lots of enthusiasm! Our tasks are varied and include projects such as building fences, planting hedges, creating ponds, habitat management in grassland, wetland and woodland, helping to conserve species such as otters and harvest mice as well as many more, so there should be something for everyone to enjoy. Contact our office for more details.
  • Volunteer Officer Programme: The Volunteer Officer Programme allows people to become full time volunteers with BTCV. This is a great opportunity for work experience in the environmental sector, it will help to train you on all aspects of the job, and give you a wide range of skills. We provide free training in practical conservation skills, as well as training in First Aid, Leadership and Minibus driving (dependent on circumstances) among others. Contact the office for details of Volunteer Officer positions available.
  • Training: The York office runs occasional training courses in practical conservation and associated skills. These range from hedgelaying to wildflower ID, pond construction to tree felling, minibus driving to health and safety. Other courses may be arranged on request.
  • If you are under the age of 18, or have a youth group who would like to volunteer, visit the York Youth website.
