BTCV in South East England (West & Central Counties)
Welcome to BTCV’s local website for its operations in the geographical counties of Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Hampshire, Isle of Wight, Oxfordshire, Surrey and West Sussex.
Through the work we do, we support, encourage and celebrate volunteers and volunteering. Our work is focused on helping people to give some of their time, skills and enthusiasm, to create and sustain environmental action within local communities. We do this by providing individuals with the necessary knowledge, skills, opportunities and confidence to do so.
Our work locally is co-ordinated by a small, friendly team of five professional community project officers (not all full-time), eight key volunteers and an area manager. We have offices in Aylesbury, Reading and Bursledon (just outside Southampton).
Special News
We are very pleased to be able to let everyone know that thanks to funding from the Health Lottery, we have new Green Gyms in Milton Keynes, Southampton and Newbury & Thatcham. The Milton Keynes one is already up and running, Southampton's starts next month (January) and Newbury & Thatcham's in April 2012.
If you’d like a relaxing weekend away doing something useful, then we have a couple of Conservation Holidays coming up early next year. Working on a choice of two lovely sites with accommodation in two lovely cottages. Details can be found here here.
We have a new vacancy for a Key Volunteer based at our office in Reading. This position will provide the opportunity for someone to become far more involved in what we do, by supporting the local project officer in delivering a wide range of community projects across many parts of the Thames Valley and beyond. It offers a great experience for anyone who’s perhaps taken early retirement or is looking for a career in the environmental sector. Further information on this position is available here . More general information about becoming a Key Volunteer is available here.
We now have an advocate that can help community groups in the South East to apply (or reapply) for a Green Flag Community Award. If you're a member of a local community group that has responsibility for the management of a community greenspace, then you could apply for a Green Flag Community Award to recognise the importance of the work you do. Further information is available here.
