BTCV London

People weeding

Welcome to the pages of BTCV London.

BTCV London offers a whole host of volunteering and training opportunities, to all Londoners, across the city. So, why not take advantage and spend a day out with BTCV? It's the perfect way to learn new skills, whilst having fun, meeting people and doing something worthwhile all at the same time.

Volunteering and training with BTCV in London gives you the opportunity to both discover some of the 'secret gardens' across London and help transform ugly urban sites into oases of wildlife, for everyone to enjoy.

All of our projects have a community focus, connecting people with places and everyone is welcome to join us. Volunteers are able to give up as much or as little of their time as they can or want to. You don't need to have any prior experience, as all training and tools are provided. Many volunteers use the BTCV experience to enhance their career opportunities within the conservation and environmental sectors, some even going on to work for BTCV. Many others just enjoy the experience of getting outdoors, taking practical action to help improve the environment and staying healthy.

As you look through the London pages, we're sure there will be something for you and we hope that you will feel inspired to contact us and get involved.

If you would like to receive a regular copy of our quarterly magazine, 'Environments for All', please call our regional headquarters on 020 7278 4294 or email us at london@btcv.org.uk

TRUE - Trust for Urban Ecology

TRUE was founded in 1976 when veteran ecologist Max Nicholson and a group of like-minded conservationists set up Britain's first urban ecology park. The William Curtis Ecological Park was created on the site of a derelict lorry park near London's Tower Bridge, as part of the Queen's Silver Jubilee celebrations. The park was always intended to be temporary and in 1985, the land was returned to its owners. By this time, TRUE had already created two new nature parks which it still runs today. Work on the third, offered to the Trust as a replacement for the William Curtis Ecological Park, was just about to begin.
