BTCV Essex
A force to be reckoned with!
Green spaces in Chelmsford are to get the environmental equivalent of a ‘wash and brush up’ this autumn and winter – with the return of the BTCV conservation task team.
And with places on Colchester projects in such great demand, the new venture - teamed with the county tree planting initiative - will help increase environmental opportunities for local people.
Funded by a grant from Chelmsford Borough Council, volunteers will be getting to grips with projects right across the area including Hylands Park, Galleywood Common and the Chelmer and Blackwater Navigation.
It is three years since BTCV last ran regular tasks in the town, but Project Officer Matt Waller is hopeful that previous volunteers will return to join willing new volunteers for the latest conservation programme.
Running every Friday from 10th October, the Chelmsford programme will be in addition to the existing 3 task days running at Colchester.
Pickup will be at 10am from Victoria Road, near the railway station entrance. Drop off at the same point will be at around 4pm. For more information email essex@btcv.org.uk or call 01206 764470.
Get planting
BTCV Essex are gearing themselves up for the arrival of 10,000 saplings – their quota of the 250,000 trees being planted across the county as part of the Greener Essex campaign.

Why not join us?
BTCVs work in Essex is wide-ranging. You could be building a coastal path one day and enhancing an inner-city nature reserve the next, coppicing woodlands for wildlife or taking part in a composting scheme.
Our volunteers are as diverse as our tasks. We welcome all ages from all backgrounds - providing tools and experienced leadership to enable the most novice newcomer to work effectively alongside the most regular ‘old-hand’, taking positive action to improve their environment.
In the last 12 months our volunteers have completed 1,825 workdays at 51 different sites across the area.
We also provide workshops and training events in addition to a variety of practical tasks.
